Jalen Learns to Sleep

The holy grail of parenting is basically when your baby learns to fall asleep on his own. We've been rocking Jalen to sleep and running to him when he wakes up crying. Lately, we've experimented with letting him cry it out more to see if he'll go to sleep on his own. This has worked on a few occasions. Here's a video of Jalen sleeping after he was standing in his crib and crying. Rick ignored him for about twenty minutes and found him asleep curled up in the fetal position.

Jalen Kisses Mommy

Jalen is starting to show that he understands a lot of what you're saying, he just can't say anything back yet! For example, we've always used "mum mum" as baby talk for food. So now, when we say "Jalen are you hungry?" he'll say "mum mum" if he is. If he's full and we ask him if he's hungry, he'll shake his head. If we offer him food and he's hungry, he'll shake his head. I've thought about starting Jalen on signing but he doesn't seem to ever copy on demand. However, he does know how to wave "bye bye" but that took him a while to learn. Jalen is 11 months old!

Our baby boy is almost one year old! Here's Jalen and his pal Trenton in Trenton's dad Jay's arms. The boys have grown up together and they've both lost some of their baby fat now that they're crawling and trying to walk all over the place. In the last few nights, Jalen has slept for 10+ hours. We're hoping that it'll become a more consistent trend and that we'll finally be able to sleep through the night as well!!

Jalen Loves to Dance

Just recently Jalen started to dance when he hears music. He even seems to move to the beat. Rick and I both have music ring tones for our cell phones so when our phones ring, Jalen will start dancing. He's going to be the life of the party!

Jalen Makes Funny Faces

Jalen loves to make us laugh. When he does something funny and we giggle out loud, he gets a real kick out of it and does it again. Here's Jalen pressing his face against the play pen and making funny faces.

Jalen Puts the Moves on Katelyn

Last weekend we had a play date with Katelyn. We haven't seen Katelyn since November and she's changed a lot. She's got a full head of hair and still has those adorable big brown eyes. She was a little shy because it was past her nap time. Jalen was very active and showed some interest in Katelyn as you can see in the video. However, he's at the age where he's still more interested in food and toys than girls. Thank goodness!
